The Industry Behind College Text Books
College text books are a huge industry, and the people the make them aren’t stupid. They’re well aware of the massive clients and profitability to tap, and they’ve come to do just about everything legally possible to exploit it. Highest of all, your professors can (and will!) require you to buy certain books such as discount college text books. Incidentally, the books they frequently require you to buy are the ones they themselves published. While this doesn’t seem so bad at highest, as soon as you walk into the university book store for used college text books and see your first 200 dollar book you’ll begin to wonder about it just a little. Personally, I visualize it’s a little unethical for a college professor to require you to buy his or her book, but many of them will do it. In a twist of irony, my Ethics professor required me to buy his 120 dollar text book and not used college text books either.
