A Deck can be defined as a roofless, floored structure, typically with a railing, that adjoins a house, whereas a Patio can be called an open, paved space that adjoins a residence. Patios are typically of Spanish origin .As we see, there is not much to differentiate between the two. Broadly speaking if the courtyard does not have a good drainage and is on uneven ground, Decks are preferred, whereas a Patio always needs a level ground as it is paved.
