Investing In The Collectible Trade Dollar

The condition of the trade dollar that you intend to purchase has a lot to do with its value, so remember that the next time you’re adding to your personal collection. Unused or undamaged coins almost always have a greater value than those in poor or indifferent condition. Of course older coins are generally more valuable to collectors, but more than just age can affect the value of a specific coin. While age and rarity are important factors when determining the value of a coin there are other factors that affect the coin’s value in the eyes of a collector. When thinking about market value for a particular coin, always try to assess the demand.

Coin cleaning, which is not recommended, should be handled by a specialist. Collectors might actually value the patina a coin has gradually developed, and consider a cleaned coin less desirable.

Collections will most likely be fine under the safety of a store-bought holder; just make sure that it will keep your most valuable trade dollars out of harm’s way by locking out moisture as well as fingerprints and dust. Packets that are stapled or taped do not provide the greatest protection; however, there are alternative protectors available that guard also against moisture. If you are storing your collectible coins, select a space that is dry over any prone to dampness or humidity.
