Why running chkdsk is important

The typical hard disk of a computer is comprised of many data sectors that invariably get fragmented with use. Especially if you install and uninstall a lot of large sized games. The hard drive needs to reallocate or redistribute new memory sectors all the time.

If you are in the midst of playing a game or running an application that demands a lot of memory and your computer suddenly switches off for whatever reason, it can corrupt your data. Such things can happen if there is a sudden thunder or lightning strike which can turn trip your house’s surge protector.

This can often compel your computer to run an autocheck on your hard drives the next time it starts up again. That’s when you get the chkdsk function running. Chksdsk is Microsoft’s acronym for “check disk.”
