The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act provides a tax credit of up to $400 for working singles and $800 for a married couple filing jointly. Now if the taxpayer has an adjusted gross income that exceeds $75,000 for singles or $150,000 for married couples, then this tax credit is phased out.
