Here’s a kind of funny and completely true story. We had a customer call in about a year and a half ago looking for a pavestone estimate. He seemed very eager to get the process started, so I went out to his house that afternoon. It was for a condominium that had a 10′ x 20′ front patio. As soon as set looked at his patio I was thought another contractor had been here and messed up the job. All existing concrete was torn out with just large mounds of dirt, roots and concrete spread around. When I knocked on the door , a man with a leg cast and crutches answered. I asked what he did to his leg and he simply pointed to the dirt mounds in his patio and said “that happened”.
The point of that story is that installing pavestones is a rigorous project. A proper pavestone installation requires a preparation of a minimum of 4 inches Class II road base (or more depending on where you live) and one inch of masonry sand. Basic paving stones are 60mm thick – so you have a total excavation depth of 7.5 inches, minimum. An average 1,100 square foot pavestone installation would require excavation of 26 cubic yards of existing concrete, dirt etc., which would take about 4 dump trucks. You would import 15 cubic yards of base and another 4 yards of sand. Is this still sounding like a weekend project to you?
While it takes only modest skill to cut a stone or lay a basic pattern, it takes a skilled professional to create a flight of steps or banding that meanders through a driveway, patio or walkway. This is where hiring a company like Panjia, Inc. is useful. Like I said, depending on your expectations of how you want your pavestone installation to look like in the end or how long you want your pavers to hold up against traffic will determine if you should hire a professional installation company, or take on the task yourself.
One thing is for certain, there are many unqualified contractors (some licensed and some unlicensed) that bid low and then deliver a poor installation. When you see a 30 – 40% difference in price something is wrong. You must make sure each company is bidding the same pavestone, and the same installation process with the same base / sand materials. This often explains dramatic differences in price. There is a reason every market has an average price range. It’s not because all of the companies got together and said let’s charge this amount. It’s because it costs and certain amount to do the job and then a certain amount to pay for other business expenses (overhead). Depending on the overhead you will see some slight variances in price.

This is certainly not an uncommon problem, as the National Association or Realtors (NAR) provides considerable leeway for local MLS boards to fashion their own independent rulings regarding the public display of member broker’s listings. While most major market MLS boards have modified rules in recent years to permit the public display of property addresses, there are still markets that prohibit the practice.
For example, Portland, Oregon only recently started allowing public display of property addresses as November of 2008. This approach also provides sufficient location information via the map to facilitate the consumer’s desire to drive-by and view properties in a particular subdivision thereby narrowing their short list of properties prior to deciding on any professional representation.

Both of the above mentioned developments will be of a hybrid hotel-condominium nature.
In 2004 Arik Kislin stepped into the general aviation industry which with an equity investment turned into a small complete service charter management company. Developing into a multi-task aviation firm, having a fleet of private jets as well as full service of private aviation maintenance, fueling and hangar institutions also having Fixed Base Operations (FBOs), these are areas that have private aviation customers which are spreading out from New York down to South Florida.
