Generally, poured in place concrete has a strength rating of around 2,500 psi. Paving stone manufacturers meet a minimum ISO standard rating of 8,000 psi - almost four times stronger than poured concrete! The difference in strength, while enormous, usually wont have much of an impact on a home owners decision as to what pavement material to use. This is only one benefit though. Paving stones offer many benefits that concrete and asphalt don’t, and these benefits usually do have a significant effect on the decision making process.
Paving stones, being a modular system makes it a truly flexible surface. For those residents in southern California this is a major value. In the case of an earthquake, concrete is expected to crack, separate or lift in some areas and possibly sink in other areas, creating a potential tripping hazard. Paving stones are able to move with the earth and are ideal in freeze/thaw condition where the earth swells and contracts. Since the joints are not mortared in place, the sand allows each individual stone to move, the paving stones will not crack.
Paving stones also offer convenient access to any underground utility lines. Not if, but when an irrigation line or a utility main line breaks underneath any concrete surface, the concrete will need to be cut, removed, the line repaired and then new concrete poured back to patch the hole. These types of repair usually always leave an unsightly spot in your hardscape. It’s unusual to see a concrete or asphalt patch that perfectly matches the original installation. With paving stone you would never have that problem. If a utility line were to break underneath your paving stones, you will be able to see the problem sooner than you would with concrete. Typically, if an irrigation or drain line breaks underneath a paving stone surface you will see percolation in the sand joints. When it is determined that there is a break, simply lift the paving stone up (you will only need to lift an an area large enough to repair the line(s))., fix the broken line, re-compact the base and reset the same pave stones that were originally there. The result will be a seamless, unnoticeable repair that will never show there was a sub-grade issue.
A high percentage of driveways have some amount of oil stains. Once again, this is no match for paving stones. While a paving stone will stain and you will have the same marks as you would with poured concrete, it can be easily replaced. During your initial paving stone installation there will typically be stones left over, since they’re purchased in full pallet quantities. These stones can be used to replace any stained pavestones. Simply shimmy the ones you’d like to replace out with two flat head screwdrivers, set the new paving stone in place, tamp down with a rubber mallet, refill the joint sand and your pavestones will look new again. You cannot say the same if you had to repair oil stained concrete.

Lake Preston South Dakota is right in the center of some of the best fishing in the country. Close by are Lake Thompson which is great fishing for walleyes and perch, Lake Henry, which is connect to Thompson when the water is high, for walleyes. I thought about buying on the Missouri River because I read many walleye fishing report lake for Oahe in SD but I really didn’t want to go that far west. Eventually I settled on Lake Thompson between Lake Preston and DeSmet SD.
I wanted to be on a lake that was great for fishing. Particularly for northerns, walleyes and perch. Thompson is a great lake for those and crappies and smallmouth bass. However I didn’t want lake view real estate, I wanted to be right on the lake with a lake front cabin.
It’s also a natural lake instead of a reservoir. The water level came up in the 80’s when they had some really wet years. A lot of farmland got flooded so it has lots of structure, stock damns, sunken trees and trees standing in the water.
There are parts of it where you can fish sand, mud, gravel or rocks. It’s a real snag filled lake and most people have the best luck with bottom bouncers. Lol, I even lost a lot of tackle fishing from my dock.
