1. Make Lists
It helps to have two lists: a list of items you would like to take, and a to-do list. Organize your ‘to take’ list from head to toe: starting with shampoo, hair conditioner–to toe: socks, shoes etc. As for to-do lists: several items may require you to make phone calls, find out information, get names and call back numbers, etc.. So although this article is like a to-do list, you may need a separate list for each item in this article.
If you have an iPad, or if your phone can support it, it may be better to write your lists on such devices, rather than using the traditional pen and notepad, since you are more likely to lose a notepad than you are your phone or iPad. I misplace papers all the time, but I always have my phone. Yet it’s still optimal to find somewhere quiet and peaceful to compose your lists, if at all possible.
2. Adapters
Find out what plugs your destination country uses and what their voltage requirements are so you can take the correct adapter with you. Electrical outlets and appliances in your country are standardized…for your country. The whole world doesn’t have one standard electrical system. That’s why most electronic stores carry adapters, and they often can help you find the one you need.
3. Luggage Limits

Go over all the official documents you will need to travel: passport, ID’s, visa, letters, etc., and ensure you keep them somewhere safe. I like to keep all my papers in one closeable folder, so I can always easily find any paper as I need it, without the stress of having to search several different luggage pockets.

You’ve probably already made reservations, but it’s a good idea to call ahead to confirm your hotel reservation. Make sure you have written down the hotel’s address. And don’t forget to give someone in your home country the address and phone number of where you’ll be staying.
